The actual names of these garments is lost to us, for instance the words shortgown just don't seem to appear as frequently as pictures of the garment. This garment can be seen on women working in fields, as house wives, etc. so I have given the garment the artistic name of Robe Du Jimi.
Robe Du Jimi (Shortgown)
This is the common women's work garment, worn over stays or not. It is available in linen, wool or cotton. This has all French seams and narrow hems. This pins at the neck then is held shut by the apron. It is a nice over the hips length. See Diderot's Encyclopedia of The Trades - Agriculture, and Collett's "The Elopement".$65
Chardon Gown (like Manteau D'Lit)
This garment is named for the artist who painted the working woman. This is made of wool or linen or cotton. It has sleeves cut "au chemise" and a shawl type collar that lies nicely down the front. It has a lovely full line and longish sleeves that can be pinned or tie up with ribbons. The seams are all French. This can be worn pinned, belted or with an apron over stays ,or not.$80- $90 fabric depending.
Robe A l'Anglais
This gown is open with an under petticoat of a contrasting color. The bodice of the gown is boned and laces up the front. The skirts are pleated onto the bodice. The sleeves are just below the elbow and the neck is a rounded square. This is available in a variety of fabrics. The cost is $200. Additional sleeve flounces $5.
